How To Care For Your Facias, Soffits & Guttering

Gutter

Fascias, soffits and guttering are all essential elements to your roofing system. For the health of your roof and property structure, it’s important to keep these in good condition. After all, they are made to help prevent water ingress and protect your roofline. Here’s what we recommend doing to keep them in working order.

What You’ll Need:

Set Up Your Ladder

Only complete this job if it is safe to do so and it is possible to set up a ladder safely and securely. Ensure you can reach the fascias, soffits and guttering and don’t try to stretch too far when completing the maintenance. The ladders will have to be moved to the next section once one part is finished. Ensure you have all garden gloves on to protect your hands.

Clear The Gutters

Now it’s time to get your hands dirty! The first step to getting fascias, soffits and guttering in good condition is clearing the gutters. As seasons change, they will fall victim to leaves, twigs and various debris collecting within the pipes. If left for too long, you might find moss that needs to be removed. If these pipes are blocked, they won’t be able to do the job they were installed for and they won’t provide protection from the rain.

Use your hands to remove anything that could be blocking the downpipes. Throw them on the floor, and put into bin bags once finished.

Now the gutters are clear, you need to make sure that there’s no other blockages. Use the garden hose to flush out any dirt that may have gathered in the gutters and pipes.

Clean Fascias, Soffits & Guttering

Once the gutters are clear, it’s now time to clean the fascias and soffits. All this requires is some soapy water and a sponge to get rid of any dirt that may have settled on the surfaces. If you’d rather, a soft bristled brush can also do the job. Keeping on top of this helps to prevent issues with mould and mildew.
